Cross Stitch

(Click to join the fun!)

I guess I feel most connected to the FarmGirl within and the past through my crafting.  I picture farm ladies of old sitting by the fire with their needle and thread in hand darning socks, or working up a homespun crochet or knit piece to keep their farmer husband warm as he works in the winter cold.  I dream of what it would have been like to live on the prairie like Laura Ingalls.  My husband assures me I'd never make it.  Still, I continue to dream.

Here is my latest "FarmGirl" crafty endeavor:

I thought I would start out with a stamped cross stitch pattern, or rather re-start, to get back into needlework.  I did counted cross stitch as a teenager.  I plan to try out embroidery next.  I've only made one or two attempts at embroidery with poor results.  I found a book to help me out, Sublime Stitching.  Not crazy about it, but the price was right and I had a coupon.  It should be enough at least to get me started.  It has all the basics.   And a few cute patterns, too.

She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.  Proverbs 31:13

  1. Hi Sharity! I agree...working crafts with our hands, whether it's stitching, painting, molding/shaping, or baking and cooking, this work does indeed connect us to our farmgirl past! I believe that God put this in each of us, this urge to make and create. We are made in His image, are we not? :-)

Blessings, and thanks so much for joining FFG this week!

  2. Hi Sharity! Again, I'm in awe of you ladies and your needlework. It does connect us to our "farm girl" hearts, and sitting and being still, and focusing. Can't wait to see your progress on it--and the finished work!

    Blessings,
    Christine

  3. What a great project. I would like to embroider as well, but my enjoyment now is knitting! I too cross stitched as a teen and actually until I had my first born!
I also dream about those pioneer days! My husband would also say that I would not make it, but that is okay, I can dream.

  4. Sharity,

I LOVE this! I like these patterns that are all one colour. I think I will try to get a stamped cross stitch and do it all in one colour. My brain can handle that. *grin* I suggest to go on google and find the doodle stitching. I found some good prices used. They were in very GOOD condition. Keep showing your work. It inspires me my friend. ((hugs))

    Blessings and ((HUGS))

  5. I love doing this! Its been years but its one of my favorite crafts. I often find samplers in antique stores done so many many years ago. They are beautiful.

  6. Thank you Sharity for stopping at my blog, it's always so sweet to hear from you. I have been blogging "real" part-time these days.
I have tried counted cross-stitch, it was a flop, I did think of trying the same as you, but this year, I have so many projects to finish, not sure I will get all of them done.
I'm getting ready to make some soap flakes and remembered you made some, did you like the results of it?
    ((hugs))

  7. Happy Sunday! Always a blessing to read your blog. I have a started cross-stitch that sits and awaits my attention....like the rest of the list calling my name...hehe! I thought I'd get around to it this winter, but I'm not.

    Beautiful!

  8. I love samplers. I think Grace needs to learn how to do one. I found some at an antique mall that were from the 1800's. I didn't have the money or I would have bought one. The messages were so good.
