You know I have never made an oatmeal cookie. At least not the kind you bake. I've made the kind on the stovetop with oatmeal, peanut butter and cocoa, etc. - you mix it all together and then drop them on a cookie sheet to cool. But a baked oatmeal cookie - this is a first for me.
I had no raisins, which is fine with me, I much prefer chocolate chips anyway, so I subsitituted the chocolate chips for raisins. They were a big hit here at home and at my sister's and mom's. I took a plate over this afternoon when the boys and I went to visit. My sister just had a baby a couple of weeks ago, so I thought they might like a homebaked treat for an afternoon snack. Yum!
I need to get going. I have chicken and dumplings on the menu for tonight and it's about time to de-bone the chicken. It's been rather cold here, for us anyway. 24 degrees this morning. I thought it would warm us up as we settle in for a cold winter's evening.
Here's what I have on my hook - it's going to be a small half-circle wrap. I'm trying to use what I have on hand. So I'm specifically looking for patterns that go with the yarn and specific amount I have.

Wow, the first time to make oatmeal cookies? They are superb with butterscotch chips too. I think my grandma called those Oatmeal Scotchies. I'd like to try the peanutbutter chips. I love oatmeal cookies in any way, shape or form, hot or cold! :-) Your "hooky" project looks like it is going well. Good job, using what you have. Happy weekend. Think warm thoughts. It was 2 degrees just now when we got home from flock group. It's only getting colder tonight, too.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your first time baking an oatmeal cookie! Our favorites are chocolate chip oatmeal...I don't care for raisins all that much.
ReplyDeleteLovely crochet, too!
Sharity, I've never made oatmeal cookies either! Wow. Maybe I need to find a recipe... They sound great with chocolate chips, too!

I can't wait to see your crochet project all done. Love the color.
ReplyDeleteI don't use raisins cause my hubby don't care for it. I use butterscotch chip, which we all love it!
Thanks for stopping by the other day.
Have a most grand weekend!

Hi Sharity! Sorry I'm just now getting over here to visit...your blog is BEAUTIFUL!!! Wow, just lovely! I have my "springtime blog" design just about finished (on my testing blog), now I just have to wait for signs of spring! I'll be snowy and blue-colored for quite a while yet...
ReplyDeleteWe always have a supply of oatmeal cookies on hand here! Nathan (my 17 y.o.) is diabetic, and we've found that oatmeal is the perfect bedtime snack to hold his blood sugars steady through the long night w/o any food to balance the insulin. He loves oatmeal raisin, but other ideas are any flavor chip you can find, or those dried cranberries/blueberries, and NUTS are delicious in oatmeal cookies. This is a cookie, that, no matter what you put in it in terms of chips/fruit/nuts, just BEGS for cloves. Cinnamon too, yes, but cloves...the BEST!
Wish I could have come over for your chicken and dumplings...yummm, that sounds good!
Thanks for joining this week!
Blessings,
Lori
Ohhh I LOVE making oatmeal cookies. Another substitute is dried apples and a tsp of cinnamon. You can even do half choc. chips and half dried apples and add the cinnamon too. *grin*
ReplyDeleteI really like what you are making and I can't wait to see it done. I am very primitive when it comes to my crochet skills. And breaking your stash is always a good thing. That is what I am trying to do this winter.

PS: Ohhh I can smell those chicken and dumplings. Can I come over ? *grin*
Those cookies look delicious Sharity...good job! And the wrap looks oh so soft and delicate. Love it!!!
ReplyDeleteWell done on the cookies, Sharity! We *love* our oatmeal chocolate chip cookies here - especially with some coconut thrown in. Yumm... and then we've turned those into oatmeal/coconut/chocolate chip muffins and call them breakfast... Mmm-mmmm!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYour crochet is looking lovely as usual. Can't wait to see it modelled. :)
Have a lovely week!
Blessings,
